A Story Of Love & H.R. Violations
Like any good love story, Chris and Melissa’s starts on a Saturday night at the office in New York City. Chris (and his group of cheap friends) decided it would be a great idea to grab a free beer at his place of employment before heading out for the night. While there, his impressed friends asked Chris if he even knew the people who sat around this magical office keg. Chris did not. But he did say that “the girl who sits here is super hot.” Naturally, his friends dared him to leave an anonymous post-it note on her computer telling her his feelings… so he did. But come Monday morning, Chris second guessed his decision to leave a note on a HR Manager’s screen and went to retrieve it. As one would expect, the note was gone.
Melissa had been working in HR at the advertising agency for almost a year, but this was the first time she found a love note waiting for her on Monday morning. After she and a colleague tried to go through employee signatures to match handwriting, she chalked it up to prank and went back to working on important HR stuff.
A week later at the office holiday party, Chris felt the confidence of a few drinks and decided now was a good time to talk to Melissa for the first time. He walked up to her and said, “hey, did you get my note?” After pretending like she received notes like this all the time, Melissa finally gave in and the two talked for the rest of the night.
Four and a half years later, Chris proposed with the original post it note, “The girl who sits here is really hot” and another, more appropriate one: “Will she marry me?”
Melissa said yes. And now we’re here. Let’s do this.
